The AI BriefOctober 2, 2026

01 / The daily perspective

OpenClaw & AI Pulse

Decision models became the day's defining theme: Cloudflare open-sourced Clef and Clef-flash (Apache 2.0, hosted on Workers AI, Jev-API compatible), Perplexity launched its Decisions API with pplx-decider-v1-27b at $0.04/M input tokens, and AWS shipped its own decider — three open-weight entrants to a category Typesafe's Jev created just two weeks ago.

Anthropic shipped Claude Code mods, TypeScript functions that rewrite prompts, tool calls, and the UI of its flagship coding agent. Tavus previewed Griffin, the first model it says passed a real-time video Turing test (48% of live callers believed it was human, company-run study), and Kevin Mandia's Armadin raised $255.5M at a $2.5B+ valuation for autonomous security. OpenAI is resetting paid ChatGPT usage limits globally this morning following GPT-6.1 Sol capacity strain.

A new OpenClaw stable release shipped today: v2026.8.34 is now on the extended-stable channel.

02 / The stories behind the signal

Five stories worth your time.

Tavus introduces Griffin, the first “Human Interaction Model” ↗

Tavus says Griffin is the first model to pass the video Turing test: 48% of participants in a company-run blind study believed they were talking to a real human on one-minute live video calls, versus under 3% for previous systems. It ranks #1 on NVIDIA's VideoFDB full-duplex benchmark (3.83 vs 3.92 human reference), and Tavus has raised $70M total from CRV, Sequoia, Scale, and YC. Study and benchmark claims are company-reported; Griffin ships as a research preview.

Cloudflare Blog

Cloudflare open-sources Clef decision models ↗

Cloudflare released Clef (27B) and Clef-flash (9B), its first in-house-trained models, under Apache 2.0 with weights on Hugging Face and hosting on Workers AI at 209ms / 38.8ms median latency. The models return typed answers with probabilities instead of generating text, are Jev-API compatible with vision input, and Cloudflare claims leadership on 7 of 10 decision benchmarks alongside a new RL fine-tuning platform.

Perplexity launches Decisions API with open 27B model ↗

Perplexity introduced its Decisions API powered by pplx-decider-v1-27b, a multimodal (text and images) Apache 2.0 Qwen3.8-27B fine-tune that outputs probability distributions over fixed answer sets instead of text. Pricing is $0.04/M input tokens, and the company reports 85.71% aggregate accuracy on an 11-task decision panel (vendor-reported).

Armadin raises $255.5M Series B for autonomous security ↗

The AI-native cybersecurity company led by Mandiant founder Kevin Mandia raised $255.5M in Series B funding co-led by a16z and Accel at a valuation above $2.5B, just seven months after emerging from stealth. Armadin builds an agentic security platform that identifies and eliminates exploitable attack paths before adversaries can use them, for enterprises and government agencies.

05
Anthropic

Anthropic ships Claude Code mods ↗

Developers can now customize Claude Code with event-driven TypeScript functions that rewrite prompts, block tool calls, hide secrets, and change the interface, shipped inside plugins installable via /plugin in the CLI or desktop app. The anthropics/claude-code GitHub repo already includes example mods, and builders can keep mods private or submit them to the Claude directory. Note: mods are not sandboxed and run with the same access as Claude itself.
